Marine City Commission takes care of business 2-5-2026

The Feb. 5 meeting of the Marine City Commission was an hour and 15 minutes in length and included a fairly crowded agenda. Commissioner Trish May was absent from the recent meeting.

Marina Park Furniture Purchase

A purchase agreement for $16,961 with Backyard Living in Richmond for furniture for the Marina Park was approved by the commission. The bid approved had been suggested for approval by Marine City Project Consultant Scott Adkins. The Backyard Living package included the following furniture: two Adirondack chairs, five 72” stained park benches, six 33” x 72” ADA compliant picnic tables and two 33” by 96” ADA compliant picnic tables. There was also a community discount of $1,962 reflected in the approved bid. Four bids on the project were received and in addition to the Backyard Living quote the city got bids for $16, 55 from Heirloom Furniture in St. Clair, $17,992 from Park Warehouse in Delray, Florida and a bid of $23,049 from Kay Industries in Plymouth, Indiana. Commissioner Sean O’Brien reminded everyone that the funding for the new furniture would be coming from a grant the city received for the marina project.

New furniture and garbage receptacles, pictured here, will be placed at the Marina Park in Marine City this spring after bids for the items, purchased with grant monies, were recently approved by the commission.

Members of the commission approved, at the recommendation of Project Coordinator Scott Adkins, a bid from Barco Products in Illinois for trash receptacles for the Marine Park. The bid approved was $3,462 for six 32-gallon Plastic Slot Designed Gray Round Receptacles with the cost being $535 each plus shipping fees. The city received four quotes along with the one from Barco including $3,626 from Uline, a bid of $4,362 from Belson Outdoors and $5,124 from Kay Industries.

Special event permit – Spring Fling

The commissioners approved a Special Event Permit for a 2nd Annual Spring Fling event to be hosted on the grounds at 300 Broadway (old city hall at the Heritage Park Bandstand) in the city. The date set is Sunday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will features lots of vendors plus food

trucks. The permit requested asked to close off half of Pearl Street to allow vendors to unload and there will be two portable restrooms and one handicap for the public’s use during the event. The permit was sought by Quellette Events, LLC.

Nautical Mile Market special event

An event by Quellette Events LLC that will bring a market to the city on Saturday Aug. 1 was okayed by the commission. The event will be hosted at the Nautical Mile Park off Water Street and is dubbed a ‘large scale vendor event with food trucks’ for the public. Organizers made a request to temporarily block off parking spaces to have vendors unload their items. Two portable restrooms and one handicapped one will be provided on site.

Special event – Harvest at Heritage Square

An event is on the calendar in Marine City for next fall when Quellette Events LLC will host the 2nd Annual Harvest Market at 300 Broadway (old city hall at the Heritage Park Bandstand) on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will be held on the grounds at 300 Broadway with a large-scale vendor show, food trucks and some dancing witches on site. There will also be regular and handicap restrooms provided on the grounds.
