Port Sanilac, MI (April 26th) – Concert is inside the Barn Theatre, Sunday, 5/5/24 – Opener: 12pm / Headliner: 1pm to 3pm
We are pleased to announce another grant sponsorship for Sanilac Museum’s Cinco de Mayo Concert Fundraiser. Sanilac Consortium for the Arts has agreed to provide partial funding for opening act Sonny D, Croswell local talent. Michigan Humanities will be providing the majority of funding for the headliner act, Conjunto Champz of Saginaw. This will be an authentic celebration of Mexican and Chicano culture by showcasing two latino rooted performances.
The Conjunto Champz musical genre goes by many names: Tex-Mex, Tejano, & Norteño. The music fuses Mexican and Spanish vocal traditions with Czech and German dance tunes and rhythms, particularly polka. This blend of cultures into a musical subgenre is the quintessential result of the American-melting pot. The group has been performing for 10 years and tours nationally each year.
This Chicano performance will benefit the arts and humanities in our community by crossing links of our region’s background with making connections with new ones. Sanilac county’s demographics have roots tracing back to Germany and Mexico but they do not typically interfuse like this concert. We hope to successfully market this concert to attract a diverse attendance from our region and leave an impact of open minds to find opportunities to culturally celebrate.
Michigan Humanities’ & Sanilac Consortium’s funding will allow us to offer this event at a discounted rate to guests and at an even greater reduction in price to our members. The event will be available ONLINE to the public at a price of $10, and $5 for members. The day of the concert, ticket prices will be $15 – so get yours today!
Food truck El Hombre Grande will be present selling their cuisine.
Cash bar will also be available – alcohol drinks costing $5
Thank you to Quad Productions for volunteering their time and audio equipment.
