Meet Tom & Alison Pemberton

Blue Water Healthy Living would like to introduce its newest Guest Co-Authors, Tom and Alison Pemberton. We are excited to have their extensive knowledge on health and wellness to share with you! 

Tom grew up in the small town of Yale, Michigan. He is the youngest child of Floyd and Diane Pemberton. Tom is the proud husband to Alison (Pierce) Pemberton and father to two sons (Jared & Jacob). Pemberton is a 1993 graduate of Yale High School. During his high school career he was a four-year member of the cross country team, wrestling and track teams. Pemberton was a three-time state qualifier in cross country, a member of the 1990 4th place state wrestling team team, and specialized in the distance events in track. Pemberton’s HS career times for 5k (15:47), 3200 meters (10:07) 1600 meter (4:27), and 800 meters (1:58).

After high school Tom went on to run for Oakland Community College (OCC). Pemberton ran for OCC’s cross country and track teams for two years. While competing at OCC, Pemberton was a NJCAA National Qualifier in cross country. Pemberton then went on to run for Grand Valley State University. While running at GVSU, Pemberton ran a personal best 8k (24:27) and a 4:07 1500 meter. In his senior year at GVSU, Pemberton entered the coaching scene for East Grand Rapids Junior High Track Team.

Upon Graduating from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Group Science, Pemberton and his wife Alison made the decision to return home. Tom was hired by Yale Public Schools in 2000 to teach 4th Grade at Avoca Elementary. Since them Pemberton has taught 4th and 5th grade for the majority of his career but has transitioned into the K-5 Yale Public School Districts Physical Education Teacher. In 2004, Pemberton was recognized by the Who’s Who’ Among American Teachers. Tom has been selected for this award on two other occasions. Pemberton has coached cross country and track for Yale in the 18 years that he has been employed by Yale Public Schools. During this time, Tom has helped his teams earn league, regional, and state honors.

In 2004, Pemberton earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan. Among his degrees, Pemberton’s most recent degree came in 2010 from California University of Pennsylvania, in California, PA. The Master’s Degree is in Exercise Science with a concentration in Performance Enhancement, Injury Prevention, and Rehabilitation (Sports Medicine). Tom has certifications in Performance Enhancement, Corrective Exercise, Speed & Explosion Enhancement, Aquatic Therapy, Myofascial-Craniosacral Therapy, and Kinesiology Taping.

Alison grew up in the small town of Emmett, Michigan. She is the oldest child of Mike and Vici Pierce. Alison is a 1994 graduate of Yale High School. During her high school career she was a 4 year member of the Volleyball, Basketball and Softball teams. Pierce (Pemberton) was successful athlete who helped her teams win many district and regional titles. Alison still holds Yale High Schools “Most Strike Outs in a Game” by a pitcher.
After high school Pierce went on to play Softball for St. Clair Community College. Pierce helped the Skippers make it to the regional tournaments in the two years she played for Skippers. With a full scholarship offer from Ferris State University to play softball, Alison decided to attend Grand Valley State University with the hopes of pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist.

Upon Graduating from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, Alison attended Graduate School at Central Michigan University and earned her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 2001.

Alison has worked as a Physical Therapist in Outpatient Rehab as well as in Home care. Alison also has certifications in Nutrition and Personal Training.

In 2012, Alison and her husband, Tom began a health & wellness company: Healing Hands Health & Wellness, LLC. The services provided by Healing Hands Health & Wellness include: Performance Enhancement, Injury Prevention, Corrective Exercise, Nutrition, Sports Medicine, Health Education, Personal Training, Speed & Explosion Enhancement, Aquatic Therapy, Myofascial-Craniosacral Therapy, and Kinesiology Taping for healing and performance enhancement purposes.
