While many schools and districts have chosen to keep campuses closed and start the school year with distance learning, Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School in Marine City is one of the very few schools that will return to in-person instruction this fall. As we reopen our campus and welcome back our students on September 8th, we have balanced the importance of keeping each staff member and student safe while also remaining focused on the social, emotional, and educational needs of our students.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting the United States this past spring, Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School has consulted local, state and national experts and relied on advice from medical authorities. A Cardinal Mooney Catholic Return to School Task Force was appointed to review the expert guidelines in relation to the Cardinal Mooney campus and recommend the safest ways for our school community to reconvene on campus. With guidelines from the Archdiocese of Detroit and the State of Michigan, along with input from our current families, Cardinal Mooney Catholic has developed a comprehensive plan for the reopening of campus for the fall 2020 semester. Our Returning Safely to Campus Plan strives to meet and exceed all local, state, and CDC recommended daily sanitation protocols and procedures.
We are also increasing the frequency of sanitation protocols to combat COVID-19, which will include face coverings, touchless thermal temperature readers, hallway dividers to ensure the safe flow of traffic in the building, hands-free sanitation stations throughout the building as well as many other facility upgrades and health and safety initiatives. Average classroom sizes have been reduced to 12 students per classroom so that we are able to maintain the social distance guidelines as mandated in the MI Safe Schools Return to School Roadmap.

The needs of our students both intellectually and emotionally demand our creativity, flexibility, and attention to detail. In-person instruction will allow our highly-qualified teachers to continue our tradition of academic excellence while challenging and supporting each and every student. The dedicated staff at Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School will be readily available to address the social and emotional concerns of all students. Cardinal Mooney’s return to campus will allow us to continue to develop young men and women with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. We stress the total development of each student. Returning to in-person instruction gives us the ability to better serve each and every student. Whether that is through one of our over 25 AP, honors, and dual enrollment opportunities, our newly formed honors academy where students will receive an AP Capstone and Michigan Merit diploma, one of our 16 championship level athletic teams, or participating in one of our 13 award-winning co-curricular clubs and organizations, students will have an exceptional high school experience at Cardinal Mooney.
As many families navigate the uncertainty of educational decisions for their students this fall, Cardinal Mooney’s virtual admissions experience will provide them insight into our school community. They will be able to hear a message from the principal and the admissions director, as well as take a virtual tour of our beautiful campus located along the shoreline of the St. Clair River.
