Do you ever have a feeling that something is missing in your life? You know that you’re a Christian but  you’re just so satisfied with the every day life that you’re missing the potential of what God has for you.  I know I do.

Our walk with the Lord is so comfortable that we become dull to God or like the bible says in

Revelation 3:16

So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

At the Maundy evening worship service, John talked about a topic that really had an impact on me,  so of course the next day I went into his office and told him he needed to preach on this subject. Well folks you really don’t want to do that or you will find yourself right up here speaking.

I don’t know if you remember or not but one Sunday during Lent John broke off a leaf of a plant and talked about how when it was cut off it would die. And then he went on to say that he waited for quite a while before it actually did die but in the mean time he was waiting for the color to change and it was wilting and then he said something to the effect of are we “Wilting Christians” ? and that just really struck a cord with me , because there are times in my life that I have felt like I’m wilting and it made me think of a  plant and when you don’t water a plant, how it will wilt and when you do water it comes back to life and that’s what happens to us Christians when we walk away, not meaning too, but  forgetting God for a period of time.

The definition for wilting is : to become weak and begin to bend towards the ground, or (of a person) to become weaker, tired, or less confident.

Do we lose our confidence in the Lord at times? Sure we do!

it says in Deuteronomy 11:16

“Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.

We can begin to wilt when we become to busy for God.

When we forget Him because we are pre occupied with our jobs , we can begin to wilt.

When we are lonely and thinking inward instead of outward we can begin to wilt.

When we’ve been hit with bad news or we have failed or we are just plain wounded, we can begin to wilt when just concentrating on those wounds.

When we have a family problem that we are trying to work out on our own, we can begin to wilt.

When we spend to much time worrying about money and lusting for more and more things we can begin to wilt.

When we have a illness that we are dealing with and we are preoccupied with that illness we can begin to wilt.

When we spend to much time watching TV or playing on the iPad, we can begin to wilt.

I have to admit the iPad is a weakness of mine. I have made a rule that I will have a devotion every morning before playing on the iPad. But I still spend to much time on the the device but I am working at over coming the addiction. Because it is additive. Phones are the same way. Constantly looking at our phones to see who has called or who hasn’t called. Ready and willing to call them back immediately.  Are we eagerly waiting ready to answer Gods call as quickly? Those are things I ask myself.

And when we spend hour and hours of time consciously or unconsciously spinning our wheels trying to figure out the solutions to All of our problems instead of going straight to the great problem solver, We can begin to wilt.

God does not want that for our lives but how easy it is to fall into that trap no matter how much faith no matter how much trust that we proclaim for the Lord.

Only the water can bring us back from wilting. Jesus says he is the living water. Only with him will we NOT WILT

JOHN 7:38

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.

That my dear friends  is the answer to NOT WILTING.

The biggest challenge is recognizing that we are wilting

Many people have said that I have and show an over abundance of joy and I do, it is a gift that God has given me and you, but We have to submit to joy, yes God gives our joy to us but we have to set our minds on Christ in our everyday ordinary lives or it’s taken away so easily and that’s what happens when we’re wilting.

GOD’S word say in John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

If we are wilting we can produce no fruits.  We are JUST there hanging on the branch.

A passage I found when thinking on this subject of wilting comes from

Jeremiah 2:13

“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
    the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water

Let don’t build our own cisterns.  Let’s let God give us living water. Let us not wilt let’s be on fire for the Lord our God.

One day I was praying to the Lord and my conversation went something like this. Lord since retiring I feel like I no longer have as many opportunities to witness for you. I miss talking to others about you.  You have given me  my beloved Vic to converse with and he already knows I have an obsession for you, And he loves that about me, but I also want to show and tell others about your love.  Give me that opportunity please.

That afternoon

I went to my dads home and after our visit as I was leaving the building, I saw an elderly gentleman coming in and I ran to the door and opened it for him and then there was another door and ran to that door and open the second door for him and he said to me  “my my you are so kind” And a little voice in my head said ” say my name”  so I said to him it’s not me that’s kind it is Jesus in me.

So I was able to speak the name of Jesus out loud to another person.

I did not tell you this story today because I did a great thing, I didn’t, everyone opens doors for others, it was a very small gesture. I tell you this because when we don’t take the time to ask God for little request in life we miss out on the blessings that He has stored up for us. It is just one way to draw near to him and become closer and closer to him so we can remain on fire for him.

Sometimes our fires are blazing for him, others times they are just smoldering embers. I actually love blazing fires. Nothing makes me happier then  when I am on a hilltop with the Lord.

1 Peter 1:23

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

I leave you with this:

Let us stay in Gods word, let’s be in conversation with Him daily and asking for small request along with the big things so can hear His answers and  we can continue falling in love with our creator more and more everyday.

Let’s not be wilted Christians let’s keep a blazing fire going for him.

Quoting Ann Graham Lotz ” God wants us to have power and blessing and glory. But you don’t obtain it by adding Jesus to your life-He has to be your life!”

Those first Christians many century’s ago lifted  each other up often,  let us do the same thing talking about Jesus to one another. Then we will gain confidence to share Him with the outside world.

Let’s always have Jesus’s name in our hearts and on our lips ready to proclaim Him as our Lords.
