‘The Girlfriend Shop’ – A Little Something

A Little Something, 205 Huron Ave. Port Huron, MI

More than A Little Something, much, much more in fact. Lucie Deline, store owner and operator of A Little Something in downtown Port Huron has something for everyone. Located on the corner of Quay St. and Huron Ave., they offer a variety of inspired gifts and treasures. Whether you’re looking for local hand-made items or souvenirs, A Little Something is a great place to buy a unique item.  Dubbed ‘The girlfriend shop,’ they even offer ladies night events, a full selection of vintage and nostalgic candy, and Michigan-made sweatshirts and gifts.

The Mission of A Little Something is to assist people in refining work skills including customer service and merchandising to aid their return to competitive work in the community. All proceeds from our gift shop fund vital services and allow Touchstone Services Inc. to provide programs for employment, community access, wellness and other rehabilitative services for adults with barriers to employment.

I was so touched by the sincerity of what they were doing that I decided to sign up for one of their Ladies Night events – different vendors from local businesses offering wine tasting, eye brow sculpting, chair massage, refreshments and more. It was such an awesome atmosphere for catching up with friends and family.  A Little Something offers so much more than mere gifts. Their dedication to the community and helping others is a dynamic story that deserves recognition.

What began in response to a successful garage sale fundraiser for Blue Water Clubhouse, an organization that offers hope and help for those with mental illness, quickly grew into a Port Huron store front.

“The store is completely non-profit and works hard to compassionately support the community.” Lucie Deline

As a member of various community organizations, Lucie finds it so rewarding to give back to the city through their job training, fundraising, and employment services. “We offer a warm and fuzzy atmosphere for all who work and shop here…It’s so much fun!”

The nonprofit endeavor was started by Sally Smith of Touchstone Services Inc.,  and offers the support and training for individuals who have a difficult time seeking and obtaining employment. It provides programs for rehabilitative services as well as health & wellness for adults. They offer opportunities for folks to sharpen their workforce skills, find job placement, and are offered one-on-one coaching specific to skills they’ve yet to discover.

In partnering with other “training centers,” or businesses in Port Huron, the mission to help others is sincere and alive in the Blue Water Area. Whether the employment barrier is due to mental illness, confinement to a wheelchair, prior imprisonment, obesity, returning to work following a gap in employment, TouchStone Services Inc. & A Little Something provide hope and practical support for anyone in need.
