Ways to insure a better life

By Marian Brennen Pratt

My son-in-law sent me an e-mail today entitled “40 ways to a more meaningful life.”

The first one was: “Don’t overdo; keep your limits.”

So I immediately cut the list down to 12.

  1. Think before you speak.
  2. Eat foods that grow on plants, not manufactured in plants.
  3. Play more games and read more books.
  4. Don’t take yourself so seriously; no body else does.
  5. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
  6. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  7. You don’t have to win every argument.
  8. Forgive everyone for everything.
  9. Spend time with people over 70 & under 6.
  10. What other people think of you is none of your business.
  11. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
  12. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

Now, even though that’s good advice, I’m figuring there’s not a snowball’s chance that I’ll be able to commit to more than 3 of them.  I’d like to say 6 but who are we kidding.

Now here’s the thing:  I pick #7 and #8 and #10.  So now, supposedly, if you meet me on the street you can say any old thing you like and I won’t argue about it and if you insult me, I’ll forgive you because what you think of me is none of my business.  Now go ahead and pick the ones you think you can do.

If you pick only one and do it well, you’re ahead of the game.
