Lake Huron Medical Center Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ Grade in the Fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

Port Huron, MI – Lake Huron Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, was awarded an ‘A’ grade in the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, a national distinction recognizing Lake Huron Medical Center’s achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.

Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC) earned the highest possible Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, an ‘A’, for its overall performance. LHMC has received a Grade ‘A’ consistently over the last three award periods.

“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns “A” to “F” letter grades to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care. Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“Lake Huron Medical Center is dedicated to our core value of quality and to serving our community with excellent care,” said Pat Roberts, Lake Huron Medical Center’s Interim Administrator and Chief Nursing Officer. “We are extremely proud to have earned an ‘A’ grade for hospital safety because it reflects the commitment that Lake Huron Medical Center, our physicians, staff and nurses make every day when caring for patients.”

In 2019, Lake Huron Medical Center received the Level III trauma center designation from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This three-year designation means Lake Huron Medical Center will be able to treat patients with more serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. LHMC was also rated a four-star facility by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Lake Huron Medical Center was awarded an ‘A’ grade today, when Leapfrog announced grades for the fall 2019 update. For more than 65 years, Lake Huron Medical Center has been providing high quality, compassionate healthcare to our community. Our mission remains the same for the next 65 years: to continue to deliver compassionate, quality care to patients and better healthcare to communities.
