History comes alive again for the 39th time May 25 and 26, 2019
The Feast of the Ste. Claire will be held on Saturday and May 25 and May 26, 2019. This is the Thirty-ninth year for this living history re-enactment, which is held at Pine Grove Park overlooking the beautiful St. Clair River near downtown, Port Huron, Michigan.
In 1686 the Sieur Du Luth built a fort at the head of the St. Clair River and named it Fort St. Joseph. This fort was the site of the great conference with the Native Americans in 1687. It was abandoned and burned in 1688. At the start of Pontiac’s rebellion English soldiers were ambushed, some killed and others taken prisoner at the site of the park. During the War of 1812, Fort Gratiot was constructed just north of the park.
The Feast of the Ste. Claire recreates the four periods of early Michigan- the Native Americans, the French, the British, and the American eras. Historic hobbyists from all over the Great Lakes area will be attending this event. They will recreate in living history displays, the time periods of the French and Indian War, the American Revolutionary War and the days of the early American fur trade. The enactors will live in historic camps to show the public the daily life of these time periods. Demonstrations of the 18th Century living, cooking, and crafts will highlight the event. A fife and drum corps, colonial singers and balladeers, and many other presentations.
