The Past Has Been Written

By Mark Maher

“You don’t have 20 years ago, but you have now—and the now is everything. Don’t dwell on lost time. You’re ready today for a reason. The past shaped you, but the future is yours to build. Just go. Don’t wait. We’ve gotten too comfortable, too soft. The road to what we want runs through discomfort—it challenges us, pushes us, makes us more. The beauty of being human? We can sacrifice now for a greater future. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s where growth happens.”Eddie Pinero

Our past is written, the good and even the bad. It’s etched into our history.  It makes us who we are.  We learn from it.  We wake up each day and we profess, I’ll do it better today.  We’re blessed to have another chance at life.

“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ.” (Philippians 3:7-9)

The chapters have been written.  Our past has been defined.  We can’t go back, but you change your life with today’s wisdom.  Today you have the pen. You get to choose. What are you going to do? We live one and only life.  One shot. “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Mae West

“On that day no one who is on the housetop, with possessions inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.” (Luke 17:31) Christ was reiterating to follow me you must “drop everything.” In the next verse, Jesus reminds us “remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32) Move forward following Christ with everything you’ve got, leave the rest behind.  You’ll have to learn how to “drop everything.”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) Paul emphasizes the importance of focusing on the future informing believers to “forget what lies behind and strain toward what lies ahead” as they follow the upward call of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

What God has for you is ahead of you.  No matter what the gains or the losses, a new day dawns.  We can’t rest on our laurels or wallow in our defeats.  Faith calls you forward.  What’s going to take center stage today?  Whatever it is put Christ to the forefront.  Let the spirit lead.

Choose today to live in a manner that you can be proud of so there’s no regrets.  We all go through valleys, but we can’t stay there.  Life is simply too short, too precious. “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14) One of the biggest deceptions is that you have time.  Do It NOW🙏Go make highlights.  As Christ said “live life to the full.” (John 10:10) Let this year be the best year of your life.

“Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.” Seneca
