Before You Go – Day 3 Commentary

By Derek Elles

It is often said that we are our own worse critics. However, Genesis 1:31 tells us that when Yahweh, the author of creation, looked at all that He created, He saw that it is was good. Many Bible verses, such as Isaiah 43:21, tell us that He created man for His purpose, His mission, which by the way is perfect. Only He knows what tools are necessary for each project within His perfect mission and the tools He chooses are perfect for accomplishing it how He wishes.

We were each called out of our mothers’ wombs to be used by Him for His purposes. Answering the call to go on a mission trip is just one of those purposes. When we, for even a moment, think that the Lord cannot use us for whatever purpose He desires, we are saying that we know better than He; we put ourselves in His position. This is an attack of Satan and moreover, it is a sin.

If our decision to go on a mission trip is to see more of the world or some other personal reason, then it is not the right reason. When we pray to the Lord and truly ask Him to use us, then He will, in more than one way, let us know that He is calling us and that is all that is necessary; He knows what He needs us for. Sometimes, His purpose for calling us is not to minister but to be ministered to.
