‘Don’t reach for yesterday’s underwear’

Soothe My Soul | Finding Peace Beyond Understanding

“It has been days since I last felt your peace, Lord, and I barely feel like I can speak a word.”

For days, the only thing I have been able to do is to pray in the Spirit and remind myself of what God was speaking to me. Although, lately there seems to be a weight on my chest and tears that fill my eyes.

It used to be so easy to trust. What happened to God? To be quite honest, I am not sure what happened from when I first started my journey with the Lord until now. What I do know is that He has never failed me and that His love has remained the same. I came here today to remind you of a couple of things.

First things first; you have the perfect helper, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who helps me write to you and He is the one who helped me pray when I could not speak for myself. I want to encourage you to study on praying in the Spirit if this is an area you do not yet understand. I also want to encourage you that if you do already pray in the Spirit, to try to do it more often. Praying in the Spirit has been an essential tool for me and I believe it will be for you too. Thank God that He has given us the perfect helper.

The second tool I want to remind you of in times like these, besides prayer, is God’s Word. When I came into the quiet place this morning with the Lord I heard, “revive me by your word” and then was later reminded of the scripture that says, “the Lord’s words soothe my soul.” When I came in this morning into the Lord’s presence, I was filled with anxiety rather than peace. I was gently reminded that this is not what His desires are for me. God’s plan for us is to be filled with faith, love, and trust. This is quite the opposite of worry. I quickly bound up the enemy’s agenda and sent it back to the pits of hell where it came from through the authority of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we just need to get fed up with the devil and his little minions, remembering that VICTORY has already been won for us on the cross.

As I began to read the word of God, the Holy Spirit began to show me promises to hold on to and gave me guidance to live out another day. You wouldn’t put on the same pair of underwear you wore yesterday, so remember to get a fresh word through God’s word each morning. Every single one of us needs daily communion with Abba through prayer and His word. It’s only through Him that we can be prepared for today. Coffee is just a bonus. Don’t reach for yesterday’s underwear; it’s already used. Reach out to God and the fresh word he has for you today.

I needed God’s word this morning to revive my soul once again. Maybe for you, today started out great. Can I tell you that God still wants to strengthen your spirit? He still wants you to put on your armor. And it is quite possible that you may run into someone today that needs what God shared with you this morning or last night. We need daily communion with God and with others just as we need His word too. There is not a day we should go without; it breathes life into our very soul.

I believe all who ready this will get a very different message, but that is why I love God so much. He speaks to us with exactly what we need when we need it. Will you lean in to hear what He wants to speak to you today? Allow His word to soothe your soul.
