Jake Cronenworth is making an impression.
The St. Clair High School graduate is in the midst of a fast start with the San Diego Padres.
Cronenworth picked up his first career hit last week, and has followed up the performance with some consistent play in the field and at the plate.

On Monday, he had a pair of impressive plays with his glove, and then added a key hit from the plate to give his team the lead.
“Jake has always been a “gamer”, the bigger the situation the better he played,” St. Clair baseball coach Dennis White said. “He has been an exceptional athlete both as a hockey player and a baseball player, he just needed an opportunity to show his talent.
“The more he has opportunities the more consistent he will be, regardless of the position he plays. The fact that he is a shortstop playing first base gives him increased range. From a hitting perspective he has spent years with Chris Newell perfecting his routine and confidence. His performance will only get better and more consistent with increased playing time. How he goes about playing is a great source of inspiration to all of his fans and followers.”
It was just part of the impressive start the University of Michigan graduate has had for the Padres, as he has carved out a role in his first season.
