Congresswoman Lisa McClain Applauds Senate Introduction of Congressional Gold Medal Companion Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-MI) applauded U.S. Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for introducing the Senate companion to her bipartisan legislation that would posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 U.S. military service members who were killed in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021.

“We must honor the lives of these fallen heroes in any way we can,” said Rep. McClain. “I’m encouraged by the bipartisan efforts in the House now being taken up in the Senate. We must swiftly pass this legislation so we can pay tribute to these fallen service members who were taken far too soon.”

“Thirteen brave men & women gave the last full measure to protect Americans & our Afghan allies at a critical moment in our nation’s history—they are American heroes. As the U.S. concludes 20-years of combat in Afghanistan, I believe it’s fitting that Congress commemorates their sacrifice in this moment with the Congressional Gold Medal,” Senator Daines said. â€śOn behalf of a grateful nation, thank you to these heroes and their families, and to all who wear the uniform and protect our freedom.”
