Port Sanilac, MI (September 3, 2021) The Sanilac County Historical Society will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of their new nature trail from 1:30 – 3pm on Sunday, September 12. And the excitement is growing and well worth the wait! The nature trail and festivities begins just to the north of the Ward Cottage in the Museum’s Historic Village.
This event will celebrate the first completed portion of the eventual one-mile walking path that will wind around the Museum’s grounds. Completion of the nature trail portion was made possible by a grant from the Sanilac County Community Foundation and YAC, sales of engraved boards for the boardwalk, and the labor of many, many volunteers over the past six months. The nature trail includes a fairy garden, sun garden, a tree sculpture, boardwalk, birdhouses painted by some of the county’s third graders, and plenty of birds and wildlife. There is something interesting to see at every turn!
The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Croswell-Lexington Chamber of Commerce, a welcome, walks to view the trail, live musicians stationed throughout the trail, great photo opportunities, a scavenger hunt, and a coloring contest for kids through 5th grade. Refreshments will follow and the Blue Water New Horizons Concert Band will play live from the Carriage Barn Stage beginning at 3pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to enjoy the concert. Engraved boards for the boardwalk can also be purchased that day. The General Store will be open with unique gifts and nature-related items.
