The Port Huron High School varsity basketball team opened a new season Friday night with a victory.
Port Huron High outlasted Clawson on the road, 46-33.
Ethan Balon scored a team-high 19 points for the Big Reds.

“After the first quarter, the guys really locked in defensively and turned up the pressure,” Port Huron coach Marion Stewart said.
“I was really happy with our young guys and how they stepped in and and stepped up. I’m proud of how hard they played tonight.”
The Big Reds return home Tuesday against St. Clair Shores Lakeview and will travel to rival Marysville on Feb. 18.
In other action: The Imlay City boys basketball team continued to ride a wave of momentum Friday night, as the Spartans picked up a 65-47 victory over North Branch.
Andrew Badder scored 15 points to pace the Spartans, Parker Lewis added 14 points, Beau Hund scored 10 points and Raymond Liu had nine for Imlay City (2-1).
“We played a really good first half,” Imlay City coach Don Gauthier said. “Got off to a slow start in the second half. We will need to put together a complete game on Monday at Montrose. We got a lot of good things to build on.”
