Applegate man flees scene after rear-ending Sandusky school bus

By Arica Frisbey of Sanilac Broadcasting

A 47-year-old Applegate man has charges pending after rear-ending a Sandusky school bus yesterday afternoon.

Chief Lester reports that it was about 3:05 p.m. when the accident happened on South Elk and Lincoln Streets, with the black pickup truck fleeing the scene as the bus pulled over. The bus driver notified police and the school, with parents being notified of the accident by both sources.

Seven of the 55 students on the bus reporting minor muscle aches after the impact, but no other injuries were reported, and there was only minor damage to the bus. The black pickup truck, however, suffered major damage from the accident, an event that another school bus driving behind had caught on its onboard camera.

The footage from the bus gave police license plate information, which in turn gave them an address that had them knocking on the door of an Applegate home within about an hour of the accident.

Charges are currently pending with the Sanilac County prosecutor’s office, with the man being charged for failure to report an injury accident and for leaving the scene of an accident.
