The following article is a letter from Blue Water Area resident Helen Hermes to Representative Paul Mitchell
Dear Representative Mitchell,
The following is a simple and very clear solution to the immigration problem. First let’s define illegal alien. An illegal alien is a person that has entered the United States illegally or a person that has overstayed their visa.
1. Mandate a period of sixty days for illegals to register.

2. Mandate all illegals to register and fully disclose the following information:
a. Length of time living in the United States.
b. Number of children / relatives
c. Work records
d. Aid received
3. The penalty for illegally entering or overstaying a visa would be no citizenship or amnesty. This would send a message that illegal entry into the United States will not be tolerated ever.
4. The penalty for nonregistration is deportation.
5. All registrants must be vetted for terror activity.
6. Dual citizenship must be discontinued. A person cannot serve two countries at once. If a person does not register, then it shows where their loyalty remains.
7. Status will be granted for legal residence for those that register and do not require assistance.
8. Registrants must take an oath to abide by our laws and will not participate in any activity against our country.
All illegals that have been here by illegal entry or brought here as a child have had time to take steps to correct their status. The excuse they were afraid is nonsense. They have flaunted and shown disrespect for our laws by their demands, lowering our flag and replacing it with their countries flag.
THE following excerpts are from research I did in 2006 because of the belligerence of the illegals march on May 1,2006. I have written 58 pages regarding immigration. Since then the problem gets worse because our so-called experts do not know history nor do they know beyond what they are told. They also flaunt our laws for private gain.
UP HOLDING the CONSTITUTION
President Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907:
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

In keeping what Theodore Roosevelt said regarding immigrants, three presidents followed after him that did the right thing when it came to illegals. During the depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegals so American citizens could have jobs that were stolen from them by illegals undercutting wages. Next President Harry Truman deported over two million illegals after WW II so returning veterans would have a job. Again in 1954 President Dwight Eisenhower deported thirteen million Mexican Nationals over two years. Deporting non-US citizens opened the door for WW II and Korean veterans to have a chance for a job.
By doing a massive sweep of agricultural areas, thousands of illegals were apprehended and hundreds of thousands fled fearing arrest. There were no appeals or delays. Deportation of all non-US citizens should happen now without exception. Any elected official or appointed official that does not uphold the Constitution and uses tactics to delay deportation of all illegals or visa overstayers should be tried for treason. The Constitution is very specific about elected and appointed officials duty to uphold the Constitution. It states “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution;”
Those that are in the business of making money off illegals either through prostitution, drugs, smuggling, sheltering, lawyering, hiring, political gain, etc, deportation is deemed evil, wrong, unjust, etc. The United States has very liberal laws regarding legal immigration, but illegals have decided to ignore the laws. Therefore, they have willingly engaged in criminal activity and should be fingerprinted, mug shot and entered into a criminal database then deported (based on the RICO law) without delay and not allowed back into the country again. Deportation is the right thing to do. It signals that our country is sovereign and the laws are to be respected and obeyed.
IMMIGRATION and CITIZENSHIP
There are three very important laws that must be made immediately to have orderly immigration. The first one to eliminate birthright. The second one is a moratorium for at least ten years to eliminate the burden unbridled immigration puts on United States citizens. The second is to deport illegals and visa overstayers that do not leave voluntarily. The deportation process would be done by eliminating the catch and release of illegals. Instead, when an illegal is apprehended get personal identification, fingerprint, take mug shots, enter information into a criminal database, confine and after a confinement quota is reached then do a mass deportation. Remember these are self-made criminals and do not deserve any accommodations afforded our citizens and legal immigrants.
To provide for an orderly path to citizenship for those who truly desire and respect our freedoms and culture, requirements to become a citizen of our great country of laws must be strictly adhered to. Anyone violating immigration laws or not meeting the requirements for citizenship cannot become a citizen.
The requirement for citizenship must be:
★ To become a citizen the applicant must be fluent in English (reading, writing and speaking).
★ Applicant must study American history from the actual writings from the first landing of puritans in 1607 to the present day.
★ Applicant must pass a written test in person with 95% correct.
★ Applicant must have high-level skills that are needed.
★ Applicant cannot replace an American worker.
★ Applicant cannot have dual citizenship. They must pledge total allegiance to the United States.
★ Applicant must pass a comprehensive health exam.
★ If all requirements are met the applicant will be given a visa to live in the United States for seven years provided the applicant has a job that uses the skills stated on the application.
★ The applicant cannot bring over another person no matter the relationship. Citizenship is not a pathway for bringing in relatives.
★ Applicant cannot receive welfare assistance while waiting for citizenship or ten years after becoming a citizen.
★ Applicant must not have any criminal record or break any laws or participate in any illegal activity.
★ Applicants that violate any laws will be deported immediately and not allowed entry into the United States ever again no matter the circumstance.
The leaders of sanctuary cities in the United States that flout our immigration laws should be indicted under the RICO law. They are contributing to criminal activity by giving aid and comfort to willful criminals that entered our country illegally, continue to live here using forged identification papers, deal in illicit drug activity, human smuggling, murder, get welfare illegally, etc.
Any person that aids and abets illegals to break immigration laws by providing housing, shelter, food, employment etc must be tried under the Rico law. The Rico law allows for fines, jail sentence and confiscation of property. Not only should businesses be subject to prosecution under RICO so should elected officials that use illegals for private work (nannies, housekeepers, gardeners, etc) and promote support of illegals by action. Elected officials and government employees should have to sign a paper stating they do not and will not have illegals working for them in any capacity.
Religious leaders should not be exempt from criminal prosecution when they shelter and /or hide illegals. Hiding a criminal is not a religious matter. It is a matter of disobeying the laws of the United States. No person is above the law and that includes people that hide behind religion to promote their personal agenda.
Employing or aiding illegals helps to proliferate the market for the smuggling of humans, drugs, guns, money, terrorists. etc. The enormous amounts of monies collected by the cartels for smuggling drugs is estimated to be ten million per day, which calculates to $3,650,000,000 billion dollars a year. With that amount of money available from smuggling criminals will resort to any violence for control of the illicit markets.
REASONS to DENY AMNESTY and CITIZENSHIP
The preceding facts are only a nth degree of what is happening in our country in regards to illegals that have entered our country by sneaking over the borders. Multiply the examples given by the fifty million illegals that have entered our country over the decades and you will find the enormous cost to citizens of the United States to be staggering. Without illegals there would be no unemployment, health, education, housing problems and the crime rate would be ninety-five percent less in many areas with high illegal population.
To give amnesty and provide a pathway to citizenship to illegals and visa overstayers will only cause more criminals to jump our borders or stay longer then permitted. Amnesty does not work. President Reagan granted amnesty, it did not stop illegals from crossing our borders instead it created an invitation to others to become criminals.
People that encourage illegals do so mainly for money and power. Corrupt business owners hire illegals because they work for lower wages, no benefits paid, no matching social security, FICA, SUTA cost. The corrupt politicians want illegals for the vote to keep them in power.
Illegals bring poverty with them. They lack education and good employment skills and will not be able to move up in the workforce. They come here because it is easy for them to get taxpayer money. Statistics show fifty-three percent of immigrants (illegal and legal) received aid through government programs such as food stamps, Medicaid, school lunches, etc in 2008. These are people that receive benefits that are often denied to US citizens.
Legalization of criminal actions via amnesty is not the answer. It will not save taxpayers money nor will it help the illegals gain a better life. Illegals are overwhelmingly uneducated which has an erroneous impact on their ability to earn enough money to sustain a living. Illegals are estimated to be thirty percent of the immigrant population. This estimate does not include the illegals missed in studies regarding immigration. The true count of illegals in the United States is closer to fifty million plus if all illegals could be counted including anchor babies.
My hope is this will be passed on to congress to show citizens do care and do research beyond complaining. We want our laws upheld without exception. Does equal justice mean anything? Not when it comes to illegals.
