East Lansing hoops star Kingston Thomas headed to Indiana prep school for final season

Kingston Thomas, who is regarded as one of Michigan’s top basketball players in the 2027 class, will be leaving East Lansing for his final season of high school.

Thomas has announced his decision to play his senior season at La Lumiere in Indiana. The La Lumiere program is well known nationally and has been a stop for future NBA players like Jaren Jackson Jr., Jaden Ivey, Jordan Poole and Isaiah Stewart.

Thomas is departing after a strong run during which he played a big role in a 55-3 record the past two seasons for East Lansing, which finished as the Division 1 state champion in 2025 and the state runner-up this season. He averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds and was named to the Michigan Sports Writers and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan’s all-state teams in Division 1.

The 6-foot-5 Thomas, who is the son of former Michigan State basketball player David Thomas, who played on the Spartans’ 2000 national championship team, is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. He owns Division I offers from Michigan State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Robert Morris and Miami (Ohio). The guard/forward is regarded as the state’s top player in the 2027 class and would have been a top contender for the Michigan Mr. Basketball award.

The departure of Thomas leaves East Lansing with several key pieces to replace from a state runner-up squad that went 27-2 this winter. The Trojans also lose Mr. Basketball winner and Bowling Green signee KJ Torbert as well as senior all-league performer DQ Stewart. That trio combined to average just under 50.0 points for East Lansing.
