It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
This week’s poll features three female athletes – two from softball and one lacrosse – who had standout performances during the week of May 31-June 6.
Voting will close at noon on Friday, June 12.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Charlotte Cook, Birmingham Detroit Country Day, lacrosse
For the second year in a row, Cook delivered the Division 2 title-winning goal for Country Day, this time on June 5. The sophomore finished the game with six goals on 15 attempts and had three draw controls.
Rachel Durecki, Utica, softball
Durecki dominated on offense for Utica as the team advanced to the regional finals of the MHSAA softball tournament, but fell, 3-1, to Romeo to conclude their season. The senior went 4-for-9 at the plate and had four RBIs with a .444 batting average.
Maddie Iverson, Grosse Pointe South, softball
South defeated Chippewa Valley, 9-7, on Saturday in the regional semifinals before coming up short vs. Macomb Dakota in the final later in the day. Iverson went 4-for-7 including a three-run homer and had four RBIs. She also pitched five innings against Chippewa Valley and had four strikeouts.
