The Indiana Fever had spent most of the second half watching a 17-point lead disappear.
Caitlin Clark missed a pair of free throws with 36 seconds remaining, and Sonia Citron hit two to put the Washington Mystics ahead by one with 4.3 seconds to go.
That was plenty of time for Clark, who hit a long 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds to go and lift the Fever to a 78-76 win.
Fever teammate Aliyah Boston said postgame: “Are we surprised? Caitlin Clark is Caitlin Clark. She’s a shooter, and you can’t leave her that open.”
