Matt Ponatoski, Kentucky QB signee from Moeller, eyes MLB draft

Matt Ponatoski, a Moeller High School football and baseball standout who committed to play quarterback for the Kentucky Wildcats, said the MLB draft in July remains his first option.

Ponatoski appeared on a recent “Over-Slot Baseball” podcast, saying he wants to be a professional baseball player “as fast as possible,” with his “option 1a” to be selected in the upcoming MLB draft, and college football as a second option.

He didn’t attend UK football summer workouts, per multiple reports.

Ponatoski tossed five shutout innings to lift Moeller (24-6) past Centerville (25-5) 7-0 in a Division I regional final June 3.

The Crusaders advanced to their 14th OHSAA state tournament. They’re scheduled to meet Perrysburg in a state semifinal June 11.

The only Ohio high school player ranked among MLB.com’s top 200 draft prospects is Jackson High School left-handed pitcher Landon Thiel.
