What's happening along Baw Beese Trail in Hillsdale? What to know

HILLSDALE — A portion of the Baw Beese Trail in Hillsdale will undergo resurfacing work this summer, with the goal of improving safety and extending the life of the popular recreation asset.

Hillsdale City Council approved a contract in early May for repairs along a 1.43-mile stretch between Sandy Beach and Barnard Street.

The project will focus on crack repair and applying a new seal coat to the existing asphalt surface. The work is designed to address surface deterioration and prevent more costly reconstruction in the future.

The municipality sought bids for the project in April. Officials awarded the contract to Thompson Asphalt Products of Coldwater for approximately $29,700. With contingency funds included, the total project cost is $50,000.

The work is expected to begin soon, with completion by mid-November.

The Baw Beese Trail, which stretches several miles through Hillsdale County, is well used by residents and visitors — offering access to scenic lakeviews, parks and regional trail connections as part of the broader North Country Trail.
