The Summit County Medical Examiner and the Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man found in the 1200 block of Winton Avenue on Saturday evening.
Akron police and EMS were called to the residence at around 6:20 p.m. and found the man inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office.
The incident also involved a traffic crash, and detectives are actively working to gather evidence and investigate the circumstances of the incident, according to information sent to the media Sunday morning.
Responding officers immediately administered first aid prior to paramedics arriving on scene. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead at 7:59 p.m.
Akron police identified the vehicle as a gray Kia Sportage that had struck a residence.
The medical examiner’s office referred to the shooting as a homicide in a media statement sent Sunday morning.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to collect evidence, process the scene, and canvass the area for witnesses.
