Insider names several candidates for Lakers' front office openings

The Los Angeles Lakers may not only look different on the court next season. They have started to revamp their front office ever since Mark Walter bought a majority share of the franchise several months ago, and it looks like that process will continue this offseason.

According to general manager and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, they will look to hire two assistant general managers, and they could very well make at least one additional front office hire. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, a few candidates for those openings have emerged.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in several candidates for their front office openings, including [Minnesota] Timberwolves assistant general manager Steve Senior, [Philadelphia] 76ers assistant general manager Prosper Karangwa, [Miami] Heat vice president of player personnel Eric Amsler, [Utah] Jazz vice president of player personnel Bart Taylor, and others, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

Senior reportedly turned down an offer to be the Lakers’ executive vice president of basketball operations. Karangwa had a seven-year playing career overseas, and he has been in the 76ers’ front office since October 2020, when he started out as their vice president of player personnel. He has also been the general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G League affiliate, since 2021, and in that role, he helped Delaware win the G League championship in 2023.

Amsler first joined the Heat as an intern for the 2004-05 campaign, and he rose through their ranks by holding numerous positions in scouting before becoming their vice president of player personnel and general manager of the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce. Taylor started with the Jazz in 2012 and has also been heavily involved in the G League — he won the NBA G League Basketball Executive of the Year award in 2019 for his work with the Salt Lake City Stars.
