Car crash shatters glass doors of Southfield hospital, injuring two

Two people were injured when a car crash sent a vehicle careening into the revolving glass doors of the main entrance to Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital on Wednesday, April, 29.

In a statement, Henry Ford Health told the Detroit Free Press:

“Shortly before noon today, a medical emergency occurred near the main entrance of Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital that caused one vehicle to unintentionally push another into the revolving door. Two people were treated for minor injuries. Patients, visitors and team members are able to come and go from the hospital.”

The main entrance remained closed Wednesday evening, and it is “too early to say” how much damage was done or how soon it could reopen, spokesperson Dana Jay told the Detroit Free Press.

People are instead being directed to enter and leave the building through the nearby endoscopy entrance, Jay said.

Citing patient privacy concerns, Jay said she could not disclose the specific nature of the medical crisis that triggered the crash.

Although there are pylons in front of the entrance designed to prevent vehicles from smashing into the revolving doors, Jay said one of the vehicles involved in the accident on Wednesday got through.

It’s just the latest in a series of Michigan car-building crashes.

On Sept. 28, 2025, a former Marine smashed his pickup truck into the chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township. He then used an assault rifle to open fire on the people who were attending Sunday morning services and set the chapel on fire.

In January, a Mercedes rammed the entrance of Detroit Metro Airport’s McNamara Terminal, hitting a ticket counter. The incident led airport officials to add more concrete barriers outside the McNamara Terminal.

AAnd on March 12, an armed gunman from Dearborn Heights drove his truck into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. The FBI said it was an orchestrated attack inspired by ideology and propaganda promoted by the terrorist group Hezbollah.
