Cincinnati basketball coach charged with grooming, sex with 16-year-old player

A former Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy basketball coach is charged with grooming and having sex with a 16-year-old girl on his team, according to court documents.

Keylan Behanan, 26, is charged with two counts of felony sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of grooming. He was arrested March 1.

Behanan is accused of having sex with the student in February.

“The defendant is the minor victim’s basketball coach, employed by Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy,” court documents state.

The school released a statement March 2 saying Behanan is no longer employed there.

“The safety and well-being of our students is of paramount importance at CCPA, and our administration is taking all available steps to protect our students and fully cooperate with law enforcement during this investigative process,” the statement said.

Behanan was charged under Ohio’s new grooming law. Gov. Mike DeWine signed the law penalizing a “pattern of conduct (to) prepare the minor to engage in sexual activity” in April 2025.

According to court documents, Behanan “did continuously text, call, and engage in conversations about sex and sexually related topics with the 16-year-old victim” including conversations about sex with older men.

Police reported that during an interview, Behanan admitted to having sex with the teen and communicating with her.

Behanan is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $60,000 bond. A grand jury is expected to review the case by March 11.

Behanan’s laywer had not responded to a voicemail seeking comment at the time of this report.
