Bears QB Caleb Williams shades Ja'Marr Chase after name mishap

Who could forget last season’s incredible back-and-forth game between the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals when the Bears stole victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to quarterback Caleb Williams connecting with tight end Colston Loveland on the game-winning touchdown? Ja’Marr Chase can forget, apparently.

The star Bengals wide receiver had a surreal moment on Thursday while on the Pat McAfee show at Super Bowl LX radio row with fellow receiver Tee Higgins, where he repeatedly called the Bears quarterback “Caleb Daniels.”

McAfee and his crew began egging Chase on until McAfee finally asked who Chase was talking about. “I don’t know what the [expletive] his first name is. Who is the quarterback for the Bears?” Chase asked while the rest of the crew burst out laughing.

Chase seemed to combine the names of Williams and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels when trying to discuss the Bears quarterback. “Joe [Burrow] is going to get on me for this right here,” Chase said. That’s not the only person who would take notice, though.

Williams himself got in on the action when news of Chase’s blunder hit social media. The Bears quarterback reposted X user Sam (@CalebIsHim) when he shared a screenshot of Chase lamenting the blown game by the Bengals going into the locker room. “Oh how quick Ja’Marr forgot this feeling from Caleb ‘Daniels,'” Sam posted.

Williams had a game to remember that day, too. The second-year signal caller had one of his best outings as a Bear last season, throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns and even catching a touchdown from wide receiver DJ Moore. Chase must not have been paying attention, but he sure knows who Williams is now.
