While all of the attention is on the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl and the transfer portal period, Iowa is beginning to see its 2027 recruiting class come together.
Earlier this week, the Hawkeyes landed 2027 three-star linebacker Gavin Stecker, giving them their first commit in the 2027 class. And it didn’t take Kirk Ferentz and company long to add to that.
On Sunday, 2027 three-star linebacker Braylon Bingham announced that he’s committing to Iowa, becoming the second three-star linebacker in a week to be added to Iowa’s 2027 class.
Bingham is from Pleasantville, Iowa, and currently attends and plays at Pleasantville High School. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound linebacker also held an offer from in-state rival Iowa State, but chose to take his talents to Iowa City instead.
At Pleasantville, Bingham plays on both sides of the ball, helping lead Pleasantville to a 9-2 record. He played quarterback on the offensive side of the ball and linebacker on the defensive side. As a quarterback, Bingham completed 57.2% of his passes for 1,492 yards and a 16:6 touchdown to interception ratio. He also ran for 909 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Bingham compiled 60.5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
He’s a versatile athlete who has the skillset to fit right in with a Phil Parker defense. And with other programs like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas State, and Kansas beginning to show some interest in Bingham, this was a big get for the Hawkeyes at this point in the calendar.
