Thanksgiving in Detroit isn’t complete without tuning into the Lions for the 1 p.m. game of the NFL turkey day slate. With the Lions leading the teams in appearances for the Thanksgiving Day games, fans are always ready to kick off their family time tradition with a little Honolulu Blue. Some will say the outcome of the game will make or break their holiday, while others will say they just appreciate being a part of something larger than themselves. Either way, the Lions step out onto Ford Field with a weight on their shoulders, and today was no different.
Unfortunately for fans, Detroit walked out with a 24-31 loss against the Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t long into the game before the media and fans alike took to social media to express their thoughts on the Lions’ performance.
During the first quarter, Amon-Ra St. Brown with an ankle injury after friendly fire and his absence was noticed. Without their WR1 to feed the ball to, the Lions were turning to their running game. Over and over again. And fans weren’t impressed with the lack of creativity.
At halftime, Woodward Sports took to X to ask fans their thought on the game so far, and they weren’t exactly nice about it.
But it wasn’t all bad. With St. Brown out for the remainder of the game and turning the passing game over to Jameson Williams, adding 144 receiving yards to his season stats, in addition to the 86 rushing yards Gibbs and Montgomery ran in. Some might suggest fans were overreacting.
All in all, it was an entertaining Thanksgiving Day tradition for the city, as always. Fans might have been a little disappointed in the outcome, the unfortunately consistent playcalling, and felt the refs were giving them the stiff arm, but we can all agree we’re thankful for the Detroit Lions.
