In a modern world of convenience, in which so many items come in disposable packages and containers, it can be frustrating to see many of those items end up spoiling pristine environments like including beaches.
That can be dangerous for humans and animals — particularly sea turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs on the beach, and their hatchlings.
To help protect turtles and restore clean the fragile beach environment, volunteers come to the beach for four months each year for cleanups on Turtle Tuesdays.
From July through October, participants gather near Mediterranean Road and North Ocean Way before heading to the beach.
The event was sponsored by the Town of Palm Beach, Worth Avenue Association, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and Primo Brands, which donated water for the more than 65 volunteers.
Their efforts help keep the beach clean for visitors and animals, especially the turtles.
