Woman fatally shot in trash can confrontation in far East El Paso neighborhood

A woman was fatally shot during a confrontation at a trash bin outside a home in a far East El Paso neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the 2300 block of Tierra Rica Way, which is off Pebble Hills Boulevard in the Upper East Side, police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros said.

A 23-year-old man exited his residence to find a 49-year-old woman by a trash bin when a confrontation occurred and the woman was shot, Cisneros said. The two persons are not believed to be related.

The woman was transported to a hospital but died from her wounds.

The man has been detained by police as an investigation by homicide detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit continues.
