Welcome to Week 8 of the Florida high school football season in the Gainesville area.
It is district title week. Two district crowns will be decided in Alachua County this Friday. At Citizens Field, Eastside will look to win its third district crown in four years, but this time in a much tougher district. The Rams are hosting mighty South Sumter. The Raiders prevented a district crown from the Rams in the last week of 2024, but this time, EHS gets them at Citizens and its sloppy turf.
In Starke, Newberry looks to win a second straight district title. This one, though, is a massive challenge vs. the region’s No. 1 team — Bradford. Revenge will be on the Tornadoes mind as the Panthers defeated them twice last season.
Elsewhere, Buchholz looks to move one step closer to the top at Tocoi Creek, and Hawthorne encounters a tough road game at University Christian. In the Rural Class, Chiefland looks to move up the rankings with a upset at Taylor County. Branford and Trenton meet for some bragging rights.
The week began Thursday as Gainesville High fell to 0-2 in district play and 2-5 overall with a 17-7 loss at Citizens Field to Leesburg.
