A man, who previously was convicted of attempted homicide and currently on parole, is back in jail after Redding police say he stabbed a man Sunday night near the Cascade Theatre in the downtown.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the Redding Police Department said 67-year-old Geoffrey Scott Kelly was sitting on a bench in the 1700 block of Market Street when Daniel Wallace, 38, of Redding walked by and stopped to talk with him. The two men argued after Wallace asked Kelly for a cigarette. Kelly allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Wallace in the chest, accrding to police.
First responders took Wallace to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries weren’t life-threatening, police said.
Officers booked Kelly into the Shasta County Jail where he’s being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder and felony parole violation, according to the Shasta County Jail.

Medical responders tried to take Wallace to the hospital earlier Sunday evening on an unrelated call, Redding police reported.
Officers found Wallace unresponsive and with drug paraphernalia on the Diestlehorse Bridge an hour before the stabbing. He was in an ambulance on the way to a hospital when he “became combative with medics and fled out of the back of the ambulance,” according to Redding police.
Police were searching for Wallace when they got a call about the stabbing, the announcement said.
Anyone with information about the incident can report it to the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200. The case number is RPD25-011014.
