Instant analysis: What went right, what went wrong in the Jets' loss to the Buccaneers

The New York Jets are still looking for their first win under the watch of head coach Aaron Glenn and they were close to it in Week 3.

The Jets (0-3) visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-0) in a cross-conference battle and pulled within striking distance late despite being outplayed most of the day. Despite that, the Green and White did not get the victory over the finish line.

With that, here is Jets Wire’s instant analysis of the Jets’ loss to the Bucs:

What went right?

The Jets fought. There are no moral victories and head coach Aaron Glenn says that himself. But the Green and White did grind their way to a one-score game in the end but it was not enough.

Defensively there were not many, if any, standouts for the Jets. On offense, wide receiver Garrett Wilson was the only player that stood out from start to finish. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor eventually made some plays but he did not blow the doors off.

On special teams, Will McDonald had an amazing blocked field goal attempt from the Bucs that he scooped himself and scored.

What went wrong?

While the Jets offense did assist the comeback attempt, the offensive was brutal. Everyone knew the Buccaneers are an aggressive defense that blitzes throughout games and New York’s big men could not handle it.

On the flip side, the Jets lost the battle in the trenches on defense as well. That happened despite injuries to Tampa Bay’s O-line. The lack of pass rush does not help a secondary that looks pretty poor through three games this season.

What’s the bottom line?

The Jets are three games into their 2025 schedule and all three opponents are talented and have winning records. By comparison, it’s clear Glenn’s team is still decent distance away from being in the same tier as those teams.

What’s next?

The Jets (0-3) head back to the AFC East but stay in Florida. Their Week 4 matchup is on “Monday Night Football” against the Miami Dolphins (0-3).
