A recently listed 10,000-square-foot home may sit in Delaware County but it contains touches of the world.
French limestone. African mahogany. German leaded glass. Stone from Wisconsin’s Door County.
Even the design bears English Tudor touches, though it hues more closely to the American shingle style.
The owner, Steven Clayman, simply says “the design is timeless.”
Clayman and his wife, Allison, custom built the home from 2008 to 2010. Designed by Tom Nau, with Nau & Bullock Architects, and built by Betley Vistain Builders, the home is nestled on three wooded acres in a gated portion of the Loch Lomond neighborhood in Liberty Township.
“During construction, we surgically removed trees as needed to keep as many trees as possible,” said Clayman. “The home feels like you’re living in the woods with the animals.”
With their children gone, the Claymans are downsizing. They have listed the home for $4.3 million with Jane Kessler Lennox with New Albany Realty.
Visitors enter the property via a curved drive, lined with some of the 22 Bevelo gas lanterns on the site. An arched wooden door, flanked by the German glass, welcomes guests into the home.
Inside, a living room, kitchen, office, two dining areas, and a sun room can be found on the first floor, with ceiling heights ranging from 9 to 12 feet.
Oversized back-to-back stone fireplaces separate the foyer from the living room while cabinets, trim and some built-in furniture are crafted of African mahogany.
All rooms, even the wood-paneled office, offer vast window views of the landscaped setting.
The eat-in kitchen includes Sub-Zero & Wolf appliances and opens to a window-lined casual dining space.
Upstairs are four bedroom suites including the primary suite. With a vast dressing room and bathroom, sitting area with a fireplace, adjacent exercise room and balcony, the suite offers a private retreat. The balcony “creates a tree-house feel due to us allowing the trees to grow close to the home,” said Clayman.
The finished lower levels features a billiards area, bar and family room that walks out to a lower-level patio.
The patio surrounds a 20-by-40-foot pool, with a custom colored-pebble floor and limestone coping.
A breezeway separates the four-gar garage from the home.
The Claymans are ready to move on, but will miss the home, and its setting.
“We love the setting, being deep in the dense woods,” said Steven Clayman. “Something very rare nowadays. The quiet peaceful feeling with abundant wildlife.”
