A Wayne County man knew he’d won a large Michigan Lottery prize, but waited an entire day to reveal the amount, according to the Michigan Lottery.
After the man purchased three $4,000,000 Winner instant tickets he scanned the barcodes at the store and one came back with a message to file a claim, but the 50-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, waited until the next day to scan his ticket on the Michigan Lottery app.
“The next day, once I calmed down a bit, I scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app and started screaming when $4 million came up on the screen! It was unreal,” he told the Michigan Lottery.
He’d decided to purchase the instant tickets after seeing that none of the game’s three top prizes of $4,000,000 had been claimed.
“I like playing the $30 games and saw on the prizes remaining page on MichiganLottery.com that $4,000,000 Winner still had all three top prizes remaining, so I went to the store to buy a ticket,” she said. “The store had three $4,000,000 Winner tickets left, so I bought all three, scratched the barcodes, and scanned the tickets.
He purchased the winning ticket at Superior Market located at 5700 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor.
He recently claimed his prize and opted to receive a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.7 million instead of annuity payments for the full amount.
He plans to use the money to pay off his home, take a trip and save the rest.
