Strong winds, heavy rain could leave you in the dark. How to track, report power outages

Weather forecasters say Michigan residents should expect rainy, and even stormy, weather to continue through Friday, June 27, which means power outages are possible.

The biggest threats this week are strong winds — up to 60 mph gusts— lightning and heavy rain that could cause flooding.

“Another round of showers/storms is likely Thursday night into Friday. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, especially late Thursday night. A quiet, warmer summery day on Saturday,” the National Weather Service in Gaylord said on X.

Thousands of customers of DTE Energy were without power in southeast Michigan on Wednesday, June 25, due to severe weather late on June 24.

“More than 46,000 customers have been restored since Tuesday evening, and we are on target to restore 95% of customers by the end of the day today (June 25),” DTE Energy said, “Please be safe and remember to stay at least 25 feet from any downed power lines — assume they are live and dangerous.”

If your power goes out during the storms, Michigan’s electric providers have online tools to help you find out when it might come back on.
