Congrats to Adams freshman Jaidyn Kimbrough for winning the South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week vote for May 19-25, 2025, presented by the YMCA of Greater Michiana!
Here is more on Kimbrough and our other nominees from this past week.
WINNER: South Bend Adams girls track freshman Jaidyn Kimbrough
Kimbrough helped the Eagles to a runner-up finish as a team at the Mishawaka sectional Tuesday. She was a four-time regional qualifier: winning the 200 (26.01) and on the 4×100 relay (49.59) while taking second in the 100 and third in the long jump.
OTHER NOMINEES
Bremen boys track senior Luke Kincaid
It’s hard to deny what Kincaid has done the last month. He added to his standout final year by being a four-time winner at the Plymouth Sectional Thursday: the 800 (2:02.53), 1600 (4:52.63), 3200 (10:07.32) and the 4×800 relay. He was the only four-time sectional champion from the area, helping Bremen win its first team sectional crown in 65 years.
Elkhart boys golf freshman Ben Divido
Divido has been a difference maker this spring for the Lions. His biggest impact may have come Saturday, shooting a 71 to earn medalist honors at the NIC Championship at Eberhart-Petro GC. His score helped the Lions win the team title with a score of 304.
Fairfield softball sophomore Madison Jones
Jones made history in three different ways this week: single-season program record for home runs (12), career program record for homers (18) and tying a single-season program RBI record (42). All of these happened during a 10-0 win over West Noble Thursday.
New Prairie softball senior Ava Geyer
Geyer continues to cement herself as one of the best players in area history. She recorded her 1,081st career strikeout Friday against Portage, which gave her the IHSAA record since the mound was moved back to 43 feet. She passed three-time Gatorade Player of the Year Keagan Rothrock on that list. Six players are ahead of Geyer on the overall list, but that was when the mound was closer to home plate.
Northridge boys track junior Baylor Miller
Miller put up a blistering time of 4:11.56 to win the 1,600-meter run at the Goshen sectional Thursday, setting a sectional record in the process. He also advanced to next week’s regional as part of the 4×400-meter relay team.
NorthWood girls track senior Claire Payne
Payne was a three-time regional qualifier out of the Bremen Sectional Tuesday, winning in the high jump (5 feet) and on the 4×100-meter relay team (49.39 seconds) while placing third with the 4×400-meter relay unit.
Penn boys track senior Kohen Turner
Turner was a three-time regional qualifier out of the sectional Penn hosted Thursday: the 100, 200 and 4×100-meter relay. He was the 200 champ (22.25) and ran a state standard time in the 100 (10.93). Penn won the team championship as well.
