Three Rivers boys finish fifth at MITCA track state finals

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Three Rivers boys track and field team had a successful season.

It is still ongoing, but for the team perspective, the Wildcats traveled to Berrien Springs late last week and finished fifth overall at the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association team finals. The Wildcats piled up 929.5 points at the event, which was won by Harper Creek with 1393 points. Parma Western was second with 1359 and Hamilton scored 1056.5 points to finish third.

“We faced some challenges early on in the meet, but were able to rebound well to place fifth overall,” Wildcat coach Jason Muckel said. “I am proud of these boys and everything they were able to overcome today in the face of adversity.”

The Cats totaled nine overall Top 8 finishes at MITCA.

Carter Rice ran to second place overall in the 110 hurdles, he posted a time of 14.96 seconds. Rice also ran to fifth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.86.

Lamonta Stone ran a time of 11.14 in the 100 dash, that was good for third place.

In the mile run, Sulley Zietlow ran a time of 4:27.63 to place fourth. His time in the 800 was 2:02.75, that was a seventh-place finish.

All four relay teams finished inside the Top 10 for the day. The best finish came with the 400 relay. That saw the team of Stone, Blake Stewart, Elijah Craig and Peyton Muzzey run a time of 43.70. In the 800 relay, the Cat team of Stone, Jeremiah Marzett, Craig and Stewart finished sixth at 1:32.36.

The two-mile relay squad of Zietlow, Reece Howes, Kyler Copenhaver and Charlie Brauer run to a time of 8:12.42, this was good for sixth place. In the mile relay, Three Rivers finished ninth. The team of Zietlow, Brayden Carpenter, Rice and Brauer posted 3:34.50.

In the shot put, Zander Barth finished eighth overall at 48-feet, 7-inches.
