Aging Connections to present 'Senior Lifestyle Injury and Fall Prevention' at SJC Library

SOUTH BEND — Children ages 3 to 9 who are neurodiverse are invited to explore stories, music, movement and play in an adaptive setting during Sensory Time at the St. Joseph County Public Library, Classroom C in the Community Learning Center, 305 S. Michigan St., from 5 to 6 p.m. May 20. Registration recommended at sjcpl.libnet.info/events. Recommended for those children above, but children of all ages and abilities are welcome.

SOUTH BEND — Aging Connections will present “Senior Lifestyle Injury and Fall Prevention” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. May 20 in the St. Joseph County Public Library, Community Learning Center, Beutter-Kernan Hall, 305 S. Michigan St. The risk of falling and fall-related problems rises with age. Learn how physical therapy can improve your balance and receive tips to prevent injuries and falls so you can stay safe in your home.

SOUTH BEND — A free retirement guidance series is being offered by Southfield Village to help individuals and families prepare for the future with confidence. Each session features local experts covering essential retirement-related topics, refreshments, door prizes and a time for questions. Sessions will take place in Southfield’s community multi-purpose room, 6450 Miami Circle. Seating is limited. To reserve your spot, call Tom Gerard at 574-849-2179. The session schedule is as follows:

• May 28: 6 p.m. Memory Stages; 7 p.m. Memory Care.

ELKHART — Girls on the Run Michiana will host a 5K event on May 17 at Potawatomi Park, 2105 E. Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. The 5K run begins at 9:30 a.m. If you register online, the cost until May 16 is $30 for ages 13 and older and $20 for ages 12 and younger. Registration day of race will see the price increase $5 for both age groups. Event is open to the public and at the end of the race, enjoy refreshments, music and photo opportunities. MIDDLEBURY — Enjoy hiking a different park trail every month, make new friends, get a little exercise and glimpse the bounty of nature at every curve and corner. The Hiking Club of Elkhart County Parks meets on the third Tuesday of each month. On May 20, meet from 6 to 7 p.m. and take a 2-mile hike from Krider Garden, 302 Bristol Ave., along the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail toward Goshen. All ages are welcome; no registration required.

NEW CARLISLE — Hamilton Grove will hold a free event series focused on retirement planning. The weekly sessions will offer expert guidance on a range of topics critical to aging well and planning ahead. Each event will be held in the Genesis A Room, Hamilton Grove, 31869 Chicago Trail, from 6 to 8 p.m., with two sessions offered each evening. Seating is limited. SOUTH BEND — The New Hope Support Group will meet the third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road. This interdenominational group is for divorced, widows, widowers and anyone suffering grief due to the loss of a loved one. The group meets in a large area of the basement level of the church. VIRTUAL PROGRAM

WARSAW — Bowen Health is offering a series of free online master classes covering a wide range of health topics designed for adults interested in improving their lives. The live weekly series covers topics related to mental and physical well-being, including setting boundaries, exercise and movement, relaxation techniques, cultivating happiness, and more. “Keep Moving: Improve Your Health and Happiness” will be presented by Bil Easley, autism program manager at Bowen Health, from 2 to 3 p.m. May 21.
