Let’s start 2018 off with a great family night celebrationMonday, January 8, 2018 is our first meeting of the year and it’s family night. Bring your photos of birding trips, vacations and trips to the river. If you’ve got five pictures bring them, if you’ve got 55 pictures bring them! We want to see what you’ve seen. Put your photos on a memory stick (thumb drive, whatever you call it) and come share with your birding family. Monday, January 8 at The Pointe Community Center inFort Gratiot, 5085 Lakeshore Rd., 6:45 pm. Let me know if you’re bringing pix to share (lolo52@aol.com).

Friends of the St. Clair River 
Board Member: Amy Meeker-Taylor

We’re happy to welcome Amy Meeker-Taylor to our Board of Directors! Amy has been involved with Friends through the Blue Water Sturgeon Festival by launching the sturgeon cruise field trips in 2014 and the Run With The Sturgeon race in 2015. Amy was born and raised in Port Huron, has lived in Atlanta and Phoenix, and currently lives in Port Huron with her husband, Mike, and 11 year old son, Cameron. Amy attended Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a Master of Arts degree from University of Miami Ohio in Environmental Education. She has worked as a Naturalist at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Atlanta, Associate Director at Camp Cavell in Lexington, and currently works as Program Coordinator at the Blue Water YMCA. Amy also shares her passion and time with the Child Abuse and Neglect Council Board of Directors, is a member of Women’s Life Insurance Society chapter #836, an Earth Fair planning committee member, and a founding member of the Startling Line Youth Running Fund. As an avid enthusiast and advocate for the outdoors and environmental education, Amy is committed to the St. Clair River. We’re grateful for your leadership and support, Amy!

Friends of the St. Clair River Board of Directors meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 7-9 p.m. at the River Rat building on the Blue Water River Walk. Join Green Drinks Sarnia the second Wednesday evening of every month. Green Drinks is a worldwide informal social networking group for those interested in environmental issues. This month’s topic is the upcoming Community Health Study, which will explore human health impacts of living and working in the vicinity of Chemical Valley in Sarnia. Discussion leaders will include:

Dr. Sudit Ranade – Medical Officer of Health
Dean Edwardson – Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association

Starting at 6:30 we will be showing the News report that brought this issue back to top of mind followed at 7:00 p.m.with our panel discussion. This promises to be a unique and timely topic, and just the thing for our 50th session of Green Drinks Sarnia!
