Are you a runner, walker, or just want to support a good cause in the community? If so, I urge you to participate in the Running for Rosebuds 5k at the Fort Gratiot Trail on June 30th at 8:00am. Parking is conveniently located in the Meijer parking lot near the Start/Finish line. Registration is $25. A Running for Rosebuds t-shirt is guaranteed to those who register online at www.roadrunnertiming.com prior to June 21st. Those who are pre-registered may pick up their race packet on June 29th at Elite Feet store in downtown Port Huron. Otherwise, race day packet pick-up and registration begins at 7:00am near the Start/Finish line. The course is flat and fast-paced. All proceeds from the 5k will be donated to Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center.
If you are unable to attend the 5k event but wish to donate to the cause, you may visit the race website and click on the “donate” link to make a financial contribution. Sponsorships from local businesses are also welcomed until June 1st. To be considered a sponsor, businesses would donate a minimum of $100 in exchange for marketing of their organization. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum sponsorship levels will equate to a corresponding level of advertisement. You may contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if interested in becoming a sponsor to benefit the cause.
Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center is an amazing resource for our community. Don’t believe me? Just ask Elisa Moore. Elisa is a strong, independent woman who is not one to ask for help. But when she relocated to a new city as a single parent of an infant, she started to feel overwhelmed. She reached out for help after realizing that raising a baby while also trying to complete school was a bit more than she could manage on her own at that given time in her life. She was surprised when she was referred to Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center. Although, she was no longer pregnant, she was informed that they might still be able to assist with her needs.
Her initial feelings of anxiety upon walking through the doors of the center quickly vanished as she took in the calm and inviting environment. The staff and volunteers assisting Elisa with her concerns exhibited nothing but sincere kindness, compassion and professionalism. Her various interactions with staff made it evident to Elisa that they had a true passion and dedication to their mission.
Based on Elisa’s reported needs, she was offered to participate in the Baby Bucks Program. This program offers individuals to engage in parenting classes, bible study and/or educational DVD’s in exchange for baby bucks to purchase a wide variety of baby items such as formula, diapers, car seats, strollers, etc. In addition to the knowledge and spiritual growth she has been able to obtain through her participation in the program, Elisa has earned an abundance of supplies for her infant daughter. Because of the assistance she has received from the center, she has not had to utilize other resources for childcare, and has managed to attend school full time from home while raising her daughter.
Elisa is just one of countless young women and men who have been helped in some way by the Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center. The organization provides a variety of services for parents in need, especially for those young parents-to-be who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. For those women and/or couples who are feeling scared as they are faced with the challenges ahead, the center can be a source of immeasurable support and comfort. A wide array of support services include the following: free pregnancy testing, free limited ultrasounds, physical, emotional and spiritual support, information on pregnancy and abortion alternatives, confidential peer counseling, referrals for medical care, housing and social services, prenatal, infant and childcare classes, maternity and baby clothes, furniture and other baby equipment, after abortion peer counseling, and abstinence education.
The Blue Water Pregnancy Care Center touched Elisa’s heart in such a way that she felt compelled to give back to the organization. In January of this year, she started praying on a way to show her support. Well, that prayer was answered one day during a morning run, hence, the birth of the Running for Rosebuds 5k. Since that fateful morning, Elisa found God has worked to bring the pieces of the puzzle together to create this charitable event. Elisa partnered with me when, on a whim, I posted on the St. Clair County Michigan Facebook page asking to help someone to organize a 5k. I recently had decided this was something I wanted to do, but did not feel ready to take on the responsibility alone. It has been my pleasure to work with Elisa on this rewarding task to benefit the cause.
Elisa and I are beyond excited to see the first ever Running for Rosebuds 5k come to fruition. Whether running/walking for fun or showing your support to the cause, we look forward to seeing you there. Get out those trusty tennis shoes and run for the rosebuds!
