New Features @ Knowlton’s Ice Museum

By Vicki Smith

Hello from the Knowleton’s Ice Museum. We are excited about the new feature we have added to our museum. Children coming in will now have a hands-on demonstration to see how people lived without electricity in the mid 1800’s. The kids that have seen the display have really enjoyed it and asked wonderful questions from what they learned.

Mark your calendars ladies, because we are in the planning stages for a style show and tea on August 12, at 2 pm. We will be offering more information in the weeks to come. Some information we currently have is that Christopher Banks will be furnishing clothing for the fashion show. What a wonderful way to end our summer season.

We are open for our summer hours right now. That means we are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tours are offered seven days a week. If you are planning on entertaining family and friends over the summer bring them in to visit the museum for a wonderful ice harvesting history showing what happened right here in the Blue Water Area.

We have a new tour guide working with our child visitors also working with our hands-on displays. Her name is Kristen Osko who is continuing her schooling for music education. Kristen is excited to lead our early learners into the history we have in store for them and her excitement transfers to those she works with.

Just give us a call at 810) 987-5441. If we are not here someone will get back to you. Just leave a message with your information especially a phone number. Enjoy your summer.

I have been the manager of Knowlton’s Ice Museum for almost three years. I have lived in Port Huron all of my life and grew up with the Knowlton family. I have two adult children and two grandchildren. I belong to an antique tractor club in Croswell, MI where I’ve shown my 1949 8n Ford tractor in local parades. I love visiting the St. Clair river with my little dog and a good book for the afternoon. Quilting is a passion when I have them time. I truly enjoy sharing the ice harvesting history in our area; it brings back memories for so many people.
