The Joy of Rescued Hearts

There we were newly married and enjoying the freedom of opting out of the corporate rat race. My husband’s bucket list dream of hitting the road  for a month or two on Route 66 cross country adventure was finally taking shape!

Well, we did have a few (haha) items on our “begin again” life to take care of first…starting with a garage/driveway/yard, etc. sale so we could then fit all this “stuff” in our recently renovated home.  Long story short – several months and vats of Ben Gay later, “we” decided to dig up our large (huge!) yard to do a few (hahaha) landscape enhancements. As you might know, that’s an on-going  love it (me)/hate it (him) needy relationship that either makes or breaks a couple’s “till death us do part” vows.

So it goes…while still holding onto our second summer of marriage during the trials and tribulations of hauling dirt, stone, & boulders, digging millions (John’s calculation) of holes, for that many trees, bushes, plants, bird houses, and feeding stations, we were enjoying dinner at my brother’s house, bragging about our soon to happen Route 66 road trip.

suddenly we became proud parents of my niece’s four year old Tea Cup Yorkie…”Tiara”...... longgg story.

“Wait, how did THIS happen?!”, my husband inquires.  After all, we were just doing a happy dance talking about our freedom ride on the Route 66 highway…and now…we have this 5 lb. bundle of fur with all her couture outfits, matching bows, big, beautiful brown trusting eyes looking up at HER newly adopted mom and dad.

It’s so remarkable how we have our well laid out plans ready to go again when the universe shows us what it has planned.  For us, one of those instances came 6 months later when my twin sister, who runs an animal rescue in Tennessee, sent a picture of her latest foster…

An adorable 6 lb. Chorkie (chihuahua/yorkie).

One look at her sweet face and my husband asks, “when can we go get her?”

We seriously didn’t have a clue at the time that we were the ones being rescued by these two kidz…”Flo” and “t“…especially when we had everything so perfectly planned around “two for the road”. Thank goodness for the nudges of universal wisdom telling us to get out of our own way and immerse ourselves into the  funderful, exciting, lap covering, feeding, brushing, long walking, dog park romping, snuggling through the night, unconditional furry loving hearts for

Five years of the fourofus !

Super! Did somebody say Route 66 road trip?

  • As someone who has added four “unexpected” rescue pets to our family I can totally relate to the joy they give us with their unconditional love and antics that keep us entertained every day. It runs in our family … Joy is my twin sister, so I have had the pleasure of witnessing how Flo and T have found their FURever loving home! I shared this article with the other volunteers in our small town TN rescue where Flo was found as a stray, since we all love to celebrate a happy tails ending for homeless dogs and cats.
