The following article is a collection of quotes, anecdotes, and reflections – some of which are dated according to when they were first posted on Forbes’ blog page: My Enigmatic Life. We believe they are too good to leave behind so we’re bringing them back to the future. Enjoy!
One of my favorite memories is from when I was 10 years old, I lived in an apartment and the lady upstairs was Lucille Foley. She worked as a nanny or babysitter but touched the lives of many people in town. I remember going upstairs for her sugar cookies and we would sit and talk. She was there for quite a few years and talked of her family in Little Rock, Ark. I would listen to her stories for hours. She was one of the most memorable people of my young life. As it turned out she was in touch with Sally Adams, Laura Foster, and many others of my age. She is one person who should never be forgotten. If any of my readers have personal stories of hers they’d like to share, send them to me and I will be happy to print them.
I just got home from Art on the river. What a great day. Good music and friends that I haven’t seen in a while. People asked what happened to my leg ( I told them it fell off). What happened to my hand (flesh eating virus) what happened to my arm (surgery to fix my hand). The most amazing thing after all of these revelations was that nobody noticed (or at least said) how fat I was! Ain’t life grand? November 2012
Art on the River will take place this year in downtown Port Huron on June 9th and 10th. A great time and place to catch up with your community and see all the new and exciting changes taking place downtown.
A few of Forbes’ fav quotes…
It hasn’t been proven that housework can kill you, but why risk it? Rest in Peace Phyllis Diller.
“I LIKE PIGS. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us like equals.” Winston Churchill. Think about it.
“Sex is one of nine reasons for reincarnation, the other eight are unimportant” Larry Niven.
“If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn’t it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted?” George Carlin. I really miss hearing George’s take on things. As controversial as he was, he was always timely, cleverly so. He never became “old”. As I get older I find that I say things that are not always politically correct. And I am usually not sorry. I happen to read about another case of flesh eating disease from a lady who lost her hands and leg. It really makes me even more thankful that I survived. One in four do not. I will have my new leg next week. I am really excited. Maybe I’ll get a tattoo. August 1, 2012
Check back next Friday when Forbes turns a car accident into blessing!
F. Forbes Johnson has been a Blue Water Area supporter for as long as he can remember. “I have have seen the good times, bad times and great times and have been lucky enough to have been part of a good many of them. I performed around the world, around the states, and around Port Huron. The blue in the water is in my blood and always will be. From Port Huron High School to Saint Clair County Community College, Central Michigan University to Michigan State. From speaking to singing to masters of ceremony to teaching to singing on hit albums, dancing with Marcel Marceau and National Touring Companies; THIS will always be home. I have been blessed to meet the finest people on earth, work with them, learn from them and find a good percentage of them in this area. To my fellow teachers, former students, performers, and many friends (who just happen to be the best ever) I am the most blessed man in this world. These are the people who have made me who I am. If I can impart any of whatever I have to one person, I will have been a success. Question me, talk to me, write to me and I guarantee an honest answer. It’s not easy but anything can be done with faith, hope and the will to do your very best in life. Anything is possible.”
