The St. Clair County Library System is proud to present as part of our 100th Anniversary Speaker Series, 13
Reasons Why: an evening with author Jay Asher, from 6-9:30 on Saturday, September 9th at the Blue Water
Convention Center. This is a free but ticketed event. All ages allowed but parental guidance is strongly
recommended. A library card is not required to attend. Tickets may be obtained at all 11 St. Clair County
Library branches or may be printed out at: Jay Asher Tickets or may be obtained at any of the 11 county library branches.
13 Reasons Why has appeared regularly on the New York Times Best Seller list for the past ten years. It has
sold over 2.5 million copies in the US alone and was recently made into a very popular 13-part series on
Netflix. The book and film have been the subjects of much discussion because of their honest approach to
teen suicide, cyberbullying, and other contemporary teen pressures.
At approximately 6:15, there will be a brief and informative presentation on local suicide prevention resources
by Michael McCartan, St. Clair County Suicide Prevention Committee chair, and Amy Smith, St. Clair County
Community Mental Health Assistant Divison Director, followed by Mr. Asher’s presentation at 7 p.m. After his
presentation, Mr. Asher will engage in a question-and-answer period as well as signing books. Books will be
available on-site to purchase courtesy of the Fort Gratiot Barnes and Noble store.
